Hmm. Lemme just go out on a limb here for a moment, could it be that the perception of rampant racism in the USA is simply heightened because, uh, we have different races here?

Isn't it more embarrassing to have a country with uh, just one race for the most part? Well ok, so we're the "new" country on the block, the others just kinda get grandfathered in, the "old" ways ok?

But yes, racism bad, period, no argument there.... and yes, we got it in spades, no argument. How could you tell if a country like oh, say, um ... Saudi Arabia perhaps, had racism?

And yes, racism is embarrassing -- but again, I feel a bit better living with that embarrasment than living with ... mirrors and echo chambers?

As for the scarf, let me tread lightly into the theoretical -- if a Republican had said, "Please wear this badge to show your unity with me." And you saw someone wearing a badge incredibly close to it, wouldn't you mention to the badge wearer, "Uh, hey, is that meant to be that Republican's badge?"

On first glance, it looks legit. But said person can simply deny it, "Nope, it's different." But gee, it kinda looks like it, why would you want a badge so close to that?

The real question that occurs to me is "What was that stylist thinking when picking that ugly scarf?" :p

Okay... I understand where you are coming from... but, sorry... I don't think so. Because, If what you are saying is true, this means that since the Crips (L.A. Street Gang) wear Cincinnati Reds caps because of the letter 'C'... therefore, Cubs fans shouldn't wear Cubs caps so they won't be mistaken for Reds fans or Crips.
    ...
Nope... sorry... still don't make any sense.

This is so odd to me. During the winter, I wear scarves (just like RR is wearing her scarf) all the time. I obviously have better taste in scarves than RR, but that is beside the point. It is odd to me that someone would vilify wearing a scarf.

If anything... those ads shouldn't have been pulled because of the scarf. They should have been pulled because of Rachel Ray.

ha ha.......I'm not even that familiar with her, but she is wearing her scarf the same way I have worn scarves for years.

This thread just inspired me to browse some scarfs online.

or maybe one of those truck driver caps, please....please wear one of those.

or maybe those Croc shoes...I could see them being very versatile in the desert. I wonder what color they'd pick?

about a month ago, there was a magazine with Lebron James and Giselle Buncheon (sp?) on the cover and there were immediately complaints of some kind of reference to King Kong. something about James looking like king kong and the girl looking like a scared damsel in distress or something. photo was dumb looking, but the girl didn't look scared in any way...she had a big smile across her face. so who's racist, the one taking a pic of Lebron with a white girl, or the complainers who are saying that Lebron looks like a giant gorilla?

fact is, people love to complain and bitch and moan. as far as I know, this occurs all over the world, not just in the US.

My daughter LOVES those Croc shoes, and the tackier, the better. Her favorite pair is bright pink with all the accessories in the holes.

Yeah... bin Laden wearing a Budweiser trucker hat saying, "... and to the Great Satan I say... i spit on you like dog...". That would be fucking funny.

I thought of getting a pair. My friends who wear them say they are real comfortable and great for the beach (because, you know how the heel part gets stuck in the sand, then flips up a handful of sand up your back?). and the holes alllow the water to drain out and there isn't that strip between your toes grinding away like sandpaper.
Still ain't got a pair, yet.

Yeah, I first noticed the trend at work. I work in health care and a lot of workers wear them, if their facility allows them. Everyone has a pair (several, actually.)The bold colors struck me and sent me into a 80's time warp. Don't they look so 80's? Remember the 'Jelly' shoes?

They do seem very durable and easy.

It would just be funny to see Bin Laden wearing something that's so wildly popular over here and seeing the reactions from us westerners. :D

Hey, I've even noticed Jelly shoes are making a big comeback these days. I had so many pairs of those as a child. :)

That's why I picked out the Red Sox cap. It's because of my insufferable friend who is a Red Sox fan. I used to feel kinda bad for him.. you know, because of the curse and all. But ever since they won the Series... the fucking guy just won't shut the fuck up already. Add the patriots and the Celtics to the mix...
I'd just love to see his face if bin Laden was wearing a Boston cap. I would laugh... and laugh... and laugh.

Indeed it would! In a bright lime green color, perhaps? :D

I had a couple pairs too when I was a kid. Where have you seen them? Just curious for nostalgic purposes. ;)

I saw them at this shop downtown called Loose Lucy's, Toys R Us and at Target. And I've noticed lots of kids wearing them.

I might have to get some just so I can walk in puddles again without getting water logged. :D
