First of all he is dead. and no, forgiveness doesn't mean the children of the world don't need to be protected from this man.
There is no value in hate.
Compassion, understanding, and helpfullness are not signs of weakness
what are you talking about? I never wrote these things...
I'm just curious how when someone says... WE MUST NOT THINK EVIL OF THIS MAN.......how that is translated into a religious statement of forgiveness. When his words are a human statement of compassion and caring for the alive.
If you are a Christian, then you do. It may not be easy, but you do. Even Christ, as he hung on the cross before his death, said to God "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do" (depending on your translation).
The Amish are Christian people. While this grandfather may not have said "forgive this man", I would imagine that it is something that he will pray about, and tell others that they should pray about as well.

I just read that on CNN, and man, you have to have a lot of dedication to your faith to say that. He has every right to be angry, and I don't know if I think he's stupid or if he has a very strong will.
He's not stupid, just has a lot faith, and beleves it is not his place to judge. A religion that is in step with the teachings of Jesus.
It is also niceto see very religous that do not preach revenge and hatred.
I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... George Carlin

I think im confused, but what do you mean by forgiveness? Telling the killer it is ok, no harm no foul?
please explain this to me.
no. that's not what i am saying.
there was harm. a massive amount of harm.
yes this man murdered these beautiful children, but it can eat away at you if you hold onto something so soul destroying.
and you are correct, the grandfather's words were a human statement of compassion. and it is from this that we must take our cues. surely if the families of the children can find it in their hearts not to condemn this man as evil, then it's the least we can do also.

as a parent you know that you would die for your children. but for this child to be willing to die for her sister and friends, that is something else.
No, actually, I have always admired them. They have a far superior society to ours. We poke fun at places like Iraq - saying they are still in the stone age - and somehow we are more advanced... Our fast cars and video games and other "advances" certainly don't make us better.
Instead we allow organized crime to flourish in Iraq - leaving their people to be terrorized and killed.
I couldn't be more ashamed and apauled.. and this lovely example of a good people - who were so badly hurt - are not acknowledged until now - and will soon be forgotten.. as America crawls back into its evil shell.
In my neck of the woods, some of the Amish have no problem asking to use my phone. The Amish in Lancaster are of the old order.
I deeply admire the man and wish I was evolved enough to feel that way. I just think of those little girls...and it makes me angry that someone took their life from them.
I think his words are admirable. It's a shame that not more Americans can think in the same way when confronting the issue of the death penalty. I believe that a murderer should be pitied, and re-educated, not murdered.
Awesome.. and we make fun of these people. Just amazing really for a young person to be calm at a time like this...
Anyone still need proof of the benefits of faith? These girls, and their families are truly amazing, and reminders that there are still good people out there. I'd bet if asked where they get that strength, I'd know what their answer would be.

Me neither, but I wish I could. Thats a little to close to expect a rational response. At least for me
