If the CDs are properly purchased, then I don't think the artists have a legitimate gripe about them being played...and therefore the RIAA should not have a leg to stand on.

(do not confuse this with an endorsement of any type of torture. I am just responding to the question of "fair use".)
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

I was at a party one time where I was supposed to be staying in the house (it was the other side of the country) but a couple of the lads got completely thrashed and wouldn't let anyone change the music or anything and they were playing seriously hardcore club music and I felt 'this is what they put Saddam through, I know it' cos I really felt like my head was gonna explode. I was sleeping in the sitting room and cos they'd been taking all kinds drugs it was about 11am before they finally left/passed out... it was horrible. At 5am I even considered calling my father (he stays there with his girlfriend) to come and collect me and I'd rang several hotels but they were full up/too expensive. It was worse than anything they could have physically done to me :o . I woulda talked... if I had anything to confess

    ...
I'm saw a whole cases of Kevin Federline and Paris Hilton CDs being shipped to a Guantanamo Bay address... really.
No wonder that fat, Arab Ron Jeremy 'Mastermind' confessed to doing all that stuff... one full cycle of listening Keving Federline and I'm turning myself in for murdering O.J.'s ex.

HA! You ought to try having to watch a store for an hour and a half being forced to the listen to "Today's hit music!" (especially when your only love of music is rooted firmly in rock). Gag me. James Blunt, Melissa Etheridge, Kelly Clarkson............eww....I shudder at the thought.

I thought this thread was about the deplorable state of popular music today. :)

In regards to the actual topic of the thread, would any artist admit their music was being used in torture? :D

That's horrible. I expect if artists know about this, they (some of them) will put a clause in their contract that it can't happen.

A couple weeks ago I was in the waiting room of a dentists office and they had on some horrible lite jazz sattellite station. It really was torture. It was like easy listening versions of known (and lame) songs. It put me in a really bad mood.

Note to self: When a woman from the other side of the country visits, play music she can't stand in order to get her to do anything.

That's the kinda music they played at that party... even if it was low you could work on forgetting it was there... but it was really really loud. My friend was with me who LIKES that music, and she was tortured too... I can't stand it so imagine what that was like. The next day I told them they're lovely people but I will never ever go back to that apartment :o . They were very understanding.
