I was actually interviewed by the local Fox affiliate for this one. Outside having a cigarette at the right time and place, I suppose.

There was no way she would win, so I'm actually glad; though I bet Bobby Jindal's a little pissed off.

Breaux doesn't seem like too bad of a guy. Maybe Jindal will go run against Mary Landrieu now.

good for her she had her time now it's time for someone else to have a go, I hope you guys get a good one next term and it works out ok. It's probably a good time for a FDR type down there. ;)
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Breaux isn't too bad, as far as I can tell. When I moved down here, he was already on his way to retirement, so all I really know about him I got from various websites. But he's very well liked, and that's something we could use in a governor (or just about any LA politician) right now. Policy wise, I've got a bit more research to do. At a glance he's a little too pro-life for my tastes, and his environmental and Social Security stances are a to the right of where I am, but otherwise seems O.K. (and I mean O.K. in the most "O.K." sense of the word). Considering I'd all but resigned myself to a Jindal Governorship, he's definitely a step up for me.

    When isn't it a good time? :D

But this is Louisiana. From the FDR side of things, expect something more along the lines of Huey P. Long.

So now the story goes that John Breaux may not be eligible to run for the office of governor. Apparently, he registered as a resident of Maryland in 2005. According to Louisiana law (so I'm told - I'll have to read the law myself), in order to be eligible for state office, the candidate must be a registered citizen of Louisiana for the five consecutive years prior to the election. He's currently got his legal team looking into it.

Even if it's "above the board" (a broad term in LA), it leaves him wide open for attacks from the right saying that he's bending the law. Not to mention that while Jindal was here, on the ground, immediately after the storm Breaux was a lobbyist in MD. It's pretty much an unassailable emotional tug for Jindal; hell, I'd use it if I were him.

So in the event of a "No Breaux" election, look to see Mitch Landrieu on the ballot. He said he'd run if Breaux didn't - and, to his credit, he was also on the ground after the storm.

Who cares? We have Nick Saban now. :D

Seriously, I love that state and hope things work out. I'll be down there this late spring I'm sure.
