This guys a joke!

Fearful of damaging his own party in next week's elections, Sen. John Kerry apologized Wednesday to "any service member, family member or American" offended by remarks deemed by Republicans and Democrats to be insulting to U.S. forces in Iraq

Okay, now Kerry's done what the White House demanded. Let's move on and talk about the Bush Administration and why they hate our troops.

    Agreed.

But would it be a stretch to ask other democratic candidates if they agreed with Kerry's comments? As well as asking republican cadidates about the handling of the Iraq war? And so on...

You can ask, but given the outbreak, I think it's pretty clear that every Democrat is going to say that they found his comments offensive. And even though they know it was a joke gone wrong and that he didn't mean what he said, they will condemn him. But they can stand on their records of actually having voted to support our troops, which is way more than Republicans who have concocted this fuss can say:

With the kind of support that Republicans offer the troops, who needs Iraqi insurgents?

How were these ratings arrived at by the IAVA.

It's just a chart with all of the Democrats at the top and all of the Republicans at the bottom.

There's an Independent somewhere in the middle of the Democrats too ;)

Each IAVA Congressional Rating is based on a given legislator's voting history on issues that affect US Troops, Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans and military families.

To calculate the Ratings, IAVA reviewed all legislation voted on in the Congress since September 11, 2001. For each piece of legislation that affected troops, veterans or military families, IAVA took a position either in support of, or in opposition to its passage. The letter grades were derived, using the scales below, from the percentage of times that each legislator's vote matched the official IAVA stance.

A total of 169 House votes and 155 Senate votes were used to determine the ratings. You can view all of this legislation, either in a complete list or grouped by session, by clicking here.

IAVA is a non-partisan, non-profit organization. These ratings were determined using a simple and transparent mathematical formula.

I've heard the same thing about the ARAP.

This is like me sending you to Friends of the Taxpayer.

Well, you could navigate the links on the web site that I posted. But here, I'll make it easy for you. Here's the description of their methodology and some EXAMPLES of the legislation they care about: http://iava.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2056&Itemid=214

And here's the complete list of legislation: http://capwiz.com/iava/keyvotes.xc/?lvl=C

To summarize what they care about -- better equipment for the troops in Iraq (like body armor), better wages and benefits for troops who serve (like good housing and wages so their families don't have to go on food stamps), health care for returnign veterans, and death benefits for those who died serving our country.

Spend a couple of minutes on the web site and see what they have to say.

Before dismissing it, I urge you to spend 15 minutes navigating the web site and seeing what they have to say about the issues.

I will. I've got to eat this chicken sandwich first though. I didn't go to Wendy's for nothing.

I may be saying this in vain, but there is nothing John Kerry said today that contradicts what he said yesterday.

    Yesterday, he said:
"I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and of his broken policy."

    Today he said:

"As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended."

If honestly think he's "flip-flopped" or anything like that, then you are clearly exhibiting a lapse of reason. And that's giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, Kenny, but you're missing the overall issue here. The man who said this is named John Kerry (Frenchy, for short) and he dared commit an act of treason - namely, running against George Bush in an election year. And, not only did he run, but he came within a stone's throw. The shame of it all.

Whatever happened to decent, honest opposition parties - ones that don't really oppose anything - ones happy in their position as distant second? Ones like the Democrats of a few years back.

I'm glad he apologized....but it sure seemed like it was forced out of him. Heck, every Dem I saw commenting on the issue said that he shouldn't have said that and asked him to apologize.
