If by that you mean the columnist is ugly, then I agree. Otherwise I pretty much agree. This foreign baby accessory thing needs to end and soon.

WOW! Maybe tone down abit??? What about adopting a poor orphaned American baby? There are way too many children in THIS country without homes!! Why you ask??? Because it's not such a as elaborate and exotic as going to africa to find one!!!
It's nothing but a 3 ring circus that brings glorious attention to these hollywood attention whores.
Yes, it IS A TREND!
An american orphaned baby has a better chance to be adopted than a child in a underdeveloped country facing an epidemic. Is there really a bad side to this "trend"? I mean, it's not like they're going to go out of style so they're going to be given to Salvation Army.
I'm just sayin...
we agree to disagree...
The trend has a purpose to lead camaras where more glorious media attention is deserved. Hollywood attention whores are a unique bait, enticing a lazy media otherwise disinclined to visit such despair.
right on. and honestly, why does everyone else care? she is taking a baby that the dad/family could no longer care for and on top of that she donated a couple million to the community...
even if you think Madonna is being selfish, this baby will have more life chances and oppurtunity with her than in her home village.
Maybe my tone was elevated because I'm so sick of what would be considered hypocrisy from many people in this country over children issues. It would be hypocrisy if they actually cared about the children instead of using that to mask their real issues and concerns.
Anyway, why should she adopt an American baby? Is that somehow better? Doesn't she live in the UK? I can't possibly see how adopting a baby from Africa is such a mistake. And yeah, it would be devastating if this were a mere trend. It should actually be commonplace, but for that to happen, a bunch of people would actually have to put their money where their mouths are.

What a no-win situation, too. People are often labeled 'selfish' when they decide not to have kids. And to think they could be labeled 'selfish' when they actually adopt one?!

What a shitty article though. Depressing to think she gets paid for such rubbish.
it seems a few people are concerned abou this.
I'm a bit confused as to why. The article says this:
"It is about safeguarding the future of a human being who, because of age, cannot express an opinion,"
um. How exactly is this particular child's future going to be safeguarded any differently if we weren't talking about Madonna? And this child, of this age, wouldn't be able to express an opinion regardless of who was trying to adopt. It just seems that the whole issue is because this is Madonna. And maybe because she is white? They mentioned that law that may be skirted, but let's face it, if there are THAT many people in need of adoption there and the kids aren't being adopted, then maybe they should change that so other people can actually provide for these kids! And it's not that she's getting a new accessory. That $3 million to help all of these children should also mean something.
