First, I thought baiting was prohibited and could result in ban?? hmmm...

Second, you think that got me "mad"??? Hardly, surprised, yes!

I think the first road to achieve peace is to become vocal about it....regardless of the "grass-root" level of the cause...how do you achieve change from no communication?

Hmmm ... I think there's a case to be made, but it would probably be more appropriate for someone in a position to do something to actually spread peace (i.e., a political figure). Sure, she probably raised awareness, but she hasn't really done anything to slow down or reduce U.S. involvement in Iraq. At least, not her personally.

    ...
I met Cindy Sheehan at Largo on Fairfax on Tuesday night. Seriously. She was there with her 'Code Pink' crew (including her sister). My friend, Jill was playing at Largo and Sheehan was down the street at a book signing at the Borders book store at the Grove and popped in to see the show. They had met at the Mother's Day gathering in Washington D.C., this year.
I did say i was sorry for her loss... as I would say to any mother I meet who has lost a child.
    ...
    My personal thoughts...
I believe she does carry a message... a personal message. I think she allowed herself to be manipulated by left wing components, such as Move-On, to be some sort of torch bearer for the Anti-War movement.
I, personally, feel that her message would had reached more if she had said, "Thanx, but no thanx" to Move-On and sat in quiet protest on her own... one mother looking for one answer.
Nobel Peace Prize? That's a bit of a stretch.

    I agree with that statement.

    And who really has then?

Also I believe regular everyday people can achieve great things...otherwise limiting these causes to politicians really puts 99.9% of us in a peon catergory of insignifiance...which I will never buy into (or place myself in)....change comes from the common man.....which finds it way to the top......

I hope she wins. We only have to look at the war in Viet Nam to see how really silly our collective really is.

There is virtual unanymous agreement that war was a bad idea resulting in immeasurable suffering and loss. During that war, some people saw that and spoke out about it. - they did so at a time when something could have been done to reduce the suffering and loss.

The odd thing is, though those people have turned out to be so very right - we still look back at them as bad annoying America haters.

That seem really odd to me

Cindy is the common man (err person) speaking up about what is painfully obvoious but so many deny.

She doesn't speak all that well. Her opinions are filled with emotion - and the result of misinformation in some cases. But.. she is painfully right and in the face of all the criticism - she keeps on telling the truth in the hope that one day .. someone.. will open their eyes, stop denying what is obvious and reduce some suffering and loss.

    I hope she wins...

Communications is a two-way street, Cindy Sheehan does not communicate. Shouting a message without trying to engage anyone in conversation is just a form of advertising.

    I agree with that statement.
    ...
I think it is the whole 'politicizing' of her grief that makes her hated by so many. She's a mom who lost her son... it's tough to hate her... how can anyone hate her?
It's the affiliation with the Move-On types that tosses her into the political mess. I really believe that she got caught up in all of it and believed in and still believes in their spin of this Viet-Nam Anti-War like movement. That, and the media frenzy that ensued... well, you know the rest.
And on the other side of the coin... there ARE other mothers and family members of U.S. soldiers that were killed in actin in Iraq that have a grievence with President Bush and his administration... but, they get absolutely zero press. So, you can sort of understand power of the platform to get your opinion out there.
    ...
And I believe that when the soldiers coming home begin to speak up of the fucked up situation over there... changes to the Course we are Staying will change.

"we are staying the course" couldn't get more one way than that.....

    Cool, go Cindy! Woo!

And I don't expect Bush to be up for a Nobel Peace Prize. When Bush is making a televised statement it is expected to be a one-way form of communications.

hmmm, just seeing who she's up against and I wouldn't bet a lot on her winning the nobel. And strangely this article doesn't mention her.
But anyways, on topic, there are much more deserving persons for this prize.

Oh yeah, she deserves little more than a cookie, but it'd still be nice to see her win, just to spice up this board :)

    raghr raghrs cannot be banned.

  • Martti Ahtisaari will win the prize.
  • I had the chance to see Cindy when her crew and her showed up at the UW for a lecutre/speech she was giving at the school two months ago. I really do feel bad that she lost her son. But she made me sick. When the camera's were on she was crying telling the assorted local media that her son never agreed with the war, he reenlisted while in Iraq, and how she lived her life so that people would remember his sacrifice, two years after his death and she had yet to take the money the gov't gave her to buy a tombstone for her son's plot. As soon as the camera's were turned off her tears were gone and she was laughing and talking to some people she knew like nothing had happened. It would be an absolute disgrace if she was given that prize. Her name shouldn't even be in the discussion.

thanks for shedding light! not that some on here don't know already she's a fraud, but good to see "the common civilian" get to see her up close and know who she "REALLY" is
