Pearl Jam and Ticketmaster Uniting to help the fans?

How strange is this? We give a big hearty thanks to the 10C for all of this, but I think we also owe a bit of gratitude to the big whigs at Ticketmaster too.
From the email;
"In an effort to provide more tickets to members who were unable to secure Ten Club pre-sale tickets for the Madison Square Garden shows on the Pearl Jam 2008 tour, Ticketmaster has agreed to another pre-sale for current fan club members."
This is just a straight-up nice thing for TM to do, no? I mean, these seats would all sell anyways, they are the best available of what's remaining. They didn't have to allow the 10C early access, and I really don't see how they benefit from it either. This is all just for the fans benefit, and the die-hard fan at that.
Can't beleive I'm suggesting this, but should we be saying, "Thank you Ticketmaster?"
Strange days indeed. . .

this is no different than any other presale done for amex, radio stations, etc.
I believe that there no question that PJ pushed for more fan club tix, but TM refused, saying we will give you the standard deal 8% for the fan club and apresale where everyone pays the fees.
if there was anything special about it, there would be additional measures in place to insure only members got tix, or the fees would be reduced.
If people can actually get decent seats, then perhaps the 10c did take some steps that are for the benefit.
I guess its nice, but I dont see how this is any different from any other presale. The password gets out and its basically a public sale with outrageous fees.
I know a lot of bands get pre-sales, but almost all the time it's from a local radio station, or it's iTunes and all you had to do was order the album, etc. Something that anyone can get.
This seems a little more exclusive. TM could easily have just said, screw you Pearl Jam, we don't care about your most loyal fans, we're giving the password out to KROCK to post on their site or to anyone with an AMEX card.
Seems like they did a little extra for us. Thanks to the 10C prodding, no doubt, but for TM to agree, I think was at the least a nice gesture.
this deal is nothing that special...i'd rather like to think PJ demanded, more than they "asked"
the best news about all of this is that its 2 tickets per buy and that was not ticketmaster's doing at all
good luck to everyone
fingers crossed...
Its not really a gesture, they do it all the time. In fact I think they dump crappy seats in many these presales. People gobble them up thinking they are the best seats available.
We shall see, I think the only difference I see is that HOPEFULLY, people kept the password to themselves. But I highly doubt it.
Time will tell thats for sure. And good luck to you if you are trying.
they don't really care who they sell it to since they get the fee anyway.
probably better for them as we PJ fans would put a heavy load on their server come Friday, at a time where they probably have a lot of other shows going on sale.
So that way it's easier for them. Yeah, 10c probably approached them with it, but they had nothing to lose and some to gain in doing it..nothing charitable from TM.
it was nice of them but 10c though shouldn't have released the password so early.
Only sending emails last night/this morning would have cut the chances of it leaking..now every scalper in town has got it (just did a google search and found it, for free, straight away) so very little difference with the general sale I would think.
If tm really wanted to help 10 club out getting tix to fans, we'd still all have our individual tm passwords in our profiles that we had in 2004 when ten club used tm to run all the presales for the VFC shows and Boston shows.
Each person had a unique password (series of numbers) and we used them to access the tm presales.

For some reason I fell under the illusion that this was an extra nice thing they did, and was somehow above and beyond what is their normal business operation.
After reading the replies and thinking about it more, in combination with my own past experiences, I guess it really isn't anything to be all that grateful for.
Oh well, back to hating them. Thanks for setting me straight everyone.

But Ticketmaster presales usually spit out tickets all over the venue, not the next best after the 10club, so in that aspect they probably did hook us up.

i'd say if you were ever gonna hate on anything, that you've decided to pick the right one to hate!!
but livenation is such a close runner up so don't be too exclusive
TIME WILL TELL FOLKS
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!
