So an elementary school in the US has banned kids from talking during lunch because of previous choking incidents during lunch.

(Oh it get's better)

Students must remain seated but are allowed a trip to the trash can to throw garbage out. once. otherwise dention the next day.

I resent that comment. Restrictions on human rights don't happen "only in america." You said in AET that you are a prostitute. I demand a freebie for the emotional distress I suffered from reading your judgmental comment about america.

Another real sad story from the land of the free(slaves). I mean it's really ridiculous but the sadest thing is that it really doesn't surprise me anymore!! Those fanatic christians are just out of their mind!!

it's not that the school is in america. it's that it is a catholic school.

Some of us catholics aren't fanatic, thankfully. I think the rule is excessive as do some of the parents obviously.

The real question is why are there so many incidents of choking at the same school? I don't remember choking incidents when I was growing up. If the lunches are mostly school lunches then the preparation of the school lunches needs to be addressed, are the cuts small enough?

If one kid is choking another kid on three separate recent incidents then that's a whole separate issue . . . but I don't think silence is the key.

Maybe restraurants should be banned too - sometimes people choke there as well. Hell, we should all stop eating I guess. sheesh.

The restaurants shouldn't be banned, silly. They should be eerily silent.

There is always the freedom to pull your kids out of the school. No one is forcing them to keep their kids in that school.

I know you're bright enough to understand the difference between a government action, and a private restriction, yes?

Much like this board, rules of decorum can be set and enforced. You don't have absolute freedom of speech on this board, but you agree to that restriction when you sign up.

And what is with Rhode Island Catholics? Do they have narrow throats, or no teeth to chew their food with?

    That's true and you're right.

But do you have absolute freedom of speech in the States? Every country has its restrictions and frankly I haven't seen many freedoms you guys have than we don't. And the ones that aren't as limited are the ones the Americans are complaining about, imo.

If they're worried about the kids choking... maybe they shouldn't put marbles in the Jell-O.
