DALLAS - Convenience store operator 7-Eleven Inc. is dropping Venezuela-backed Citgo as its gasoline supplier at more than 2,100 locations and switching to its own brand of fuel.
The retailer said Wednesday it will purchase fuel from several distributors, including Tower Energy Group of Torrance, Calif., Sinclair Oil of Salt Lake City, and Houston-based Frontier Oil Corp.
Citgo is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, and the foreign parent became a public-relations issue for 7-Eleven because of comments by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
Chavez has called President George W. Bush the devil and an alcoholic. The U.S. government has warned that Chavez is a destabilizing force in Latin America.
Chabris said a boycott of Citgo gasoline would hurt the 4,000 employees of the U.S. subsidiary, who have no connection to Venezuela.
7-Eleven had been considering creating its own brand of fuel since at least early last year. Company officials said at the time they had spoken with independent fuel distributors.

I have a question...
"Convenience store operator 7-Eleven Inc. is dropping Venezuela-backed Citgo as its gasoline supplier at more than 2,100 locations and switching to its own brand of fuel."
...
Why wasn't 7-Eleven selling 'its own brand of fuel' the whole time?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I'm not sure which stations receive their gas from Saudi Arabia. I do know that Citgo gets the majority of its gas from Venezuela and Chavez. I think Chavez is a douche and I refuse to support him. If I have to choose between the Sauds and Chavez, I'm going with Saudi Arabia.0 -

I dunno, but i'm sure it's gonna have quality issues.

This is a great time for some smart entrepreneur to start his own gas company and get the juice from chavez, i'm sure chavez would cut a great deal at this point just to hit back at america and 7 eleven, a new gas station that will undercut the competition.
anyone have a couple hundred million to invest?
of course I don't know if the system would allow something like that, but I think it's kinda interesting to think about.0 -

But it's good to know you're more afraid of words than actions.0 -

.
i'm not too familiar with Wahabbism but all I know is that the sauds are corrupt, very corrupt.
Imagine a government that oppresses it's own people, a government/leaders that live in palaces while it's people on the street go hungry, such a rich country that does almost nothing to help people. not even it's own people.0 -

Actually I hadn't heard of Wahhabism or Wahhabi Islam. But thanks to the internet I did a little research and learned something new. I would gladly stop buying my gas from Saudi Arabia or any other foreign country, but that isn't realistic.0 -

But, still, it didn't stop Bush from holding hands in the White House garden.
And, after all, Chavez did say all those mean, nasty things about Bush - pwababwy hert his feewings.0 -

RainDog wrote:No, at the moment it isn't realistic; but if we're going to single out world leaders for grievious offences, Chavez isn't the one we should be focusing on. He's a blowhard enjoying his time on the world stage. The Saudis on the other hand......
Venezuela's human rights and personal freedoms under Chavez, while not as bad as Saudi Arabia's under Wahhabism, are still deplorable. I'm still just pissed that the guy came here and took a shit on America.0 -

He was at an UN building...I guess anything said against the US should be refrained there....give me a break...can say whatever he wants regardless of what it comes out as....0 -
Ridiculous!
What does business have to do with politics?
People would still buy the gasoline without knowing where it is coming from. Except now I'm not going to 7-11 any more because I know they are a political corporation.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0
