The government/state/cities are thinking about catching speeders via GPS,meaning, every MPH over you go, prepare to recieve a speeding ticket in the mail. Of course that's still some years away but just the thought is very scary.

How Big Brotherish is that?

I mean what's Next? thinking of putting microchips in our arms with all our info stored in them? oh wait, they've already thought about doing that one.

  • I wouldn't worry about it so much. If too many people get tickets, they won't stand for it, and the program would be shut down. Kinda like the draft.

Then maybe they'll ticket the population just enough, yeah know, just enough that it won't piss the masses off. as it is now, I see people getting speeding tickets then agree with the cops, "well I was speeding so I deserved it"

Once it's introduced I bet many people just won't care. you know, once it's in the blood stream.
  • Plus, you know some kid would just hack the system and they'd have to shut it down :P

Must fight it! After that, the next thing will be gps in our arms or something. Think about it about.... they already do that to animals. They may want to do that to prisoners and then everybody else. Must fight it!

You fit quite well in post #3

Fine I won't speed, but the cops and the politicians should also keep within the limit unless of emergency.

Do you think these devices will also be in police cars? If so then i'm fine with it, I just think that it's wrong that they are able to travel at high speeds and never get ticketed for it. unless it's an emergency which I understand.

i think they should be - that has always annoyed the shit out of me too...and, how, when police officers get pulled over...in their personal cars...it's a professional courtesy to let them go...or just write them a warning...if it's dangerous for me to drive over the speed limit, it is dangerous for them too...

I think the problem with speeding is this, people believe that "speeding kills", this is not exactly accurate.

Not one person in the history of driving has ever died just because of being over the limit, people don't go 10 mph over then just die in the seat because they were "over the limit". Now Crashing kills, but that's wreckless driving, indeed speed can aid in the severity of an accident but again, wreckless driving is the real concern. But speeding is the easy target. people who run reds, don't indicate, talk on cell phones or eat burgers while they drive, now they are the real dangers, but i'm sure you and crazy mary never do any of those things right?

Now when you look at some areas in the world with no or very high speed limits, the death rate is much lower, this is due to proper driving skills. race drivers (ahem) for example rarely crash and we sometimes reach well over 150mph. so again, speed is not the problem. It's just an easy way to make money for the states and so on.

The truth is, half of american drivers should not be the on the road. the age should be raised and the tests should be harder.

I know an officer, he trains others entering the force, he always tells me how he tells these guy's not to write speeding tickets. unless of course they themselves don't speed, otherwise they would be a hypocrite.

That I think is very fair.

But sadly everyone is not like that, also insurance companies help pay for radar detectors for police stations. the more speeding tickets a person has the better the chance their insurance goes up, makes the companies happy, more money for them.

You are so right, I have seen police in my community turn on their lights and sirons go through a red light, turn off everything and return to normal speed. Its the old saying "do as I say, not as I do.
