Need a paper topic arguing a Controversial Issue in a non-Western Culture. Any ideas?

I'm helping a friend with a research paper, and he's been assigned to write a 4-5 page argument about a controversial issue in a non-western culture. Topics such as Darfur, African Child Labor, and the War were given as examples.

Toss up some ideas for us, we need an interesting topic to get started on this!

I feel like the professor is coming from the viewpoint, that Americans don't bother to think about other cultures, and issues that face them......I just need a jumping off topic that's interesting, the we can run with.
