That is what is wrong with America. Those who started this country, didnt think people would be making a career out of politics. Serve your term, then go back to your farm, job, family or whatever. No more of these lifelong politicians who lost touch with real people.

McCain and Biden are both guilty. Obama too except he has spent half of his term campaigning for a better job, which is another problem altogether.
That is the only reason I kinda like Palin, she has been secluded in Alaska, and hasnt been ruined by DC.

Discuss. (or should I say defend Obama and try to bash McCain/Palin as I know here that is where it is going to go).

What are you talking about? This forum seems pretty evenly divided. Maybe a bit more liberal, but then again you're on a Pearl Jam board.

  • If you can prove that you have in some way helped the American citizens by your actions every year, I'm fine with it.

I do have a problem with those who say "their life work is ______", and they have been working on ______ for 30 fucking years. You have had 30 years, enough already. We want results. You are fired. Go back to your farm.

For some reason, we keep voting for em'.

McCain sucks and Obama rules! (ha ha, couldnt resist)

Palin is the real Washington outsider here, despite Obama thinking that he is.

I agree. I was talking to a guy at work about this today. I am an Obama supporter, but can you find anyone more of an "outsider"? She is from the farthest reaches of our country, literally as far away as you can get from DC, has very little experience, and is young.

She has little experience. That is a big time positive as far as I am concerned.

I agree with most but why not support a third party then?

I think it's probably, sadly, cause most people feel like they would be throwing their vote away. Imagine you're an undecided voter in Ohio; you like Ralph Nader, but you're terrified of what McCain would do to the country, so you vote for Obama, saying to yourself that a third party candidate can wait because this is the most important election of a lifetime. And of course, EVERY election is going to be the most important election of a lifetime, so it waits forever. Plus, third party candidates never have much money and therefore can't get their face on air like the Republican and Democratic candidates.

Personally, my only choices for third party candidates who I was at least informed about the issues and stances were Nader and Bob Barr. Neither of them are very appealing candidates. I really wish a third-party Obama-esque character would come along, someone who can inspire and mobilize alot of people (and raise a shitton of money)...Obama's easily outearning McCain based primarily on small grassroots donations. Imagine if a third-party candidate had that kind of fundraising strength? The two-party system in America would be pretty much dead, I think.
  • Just one reason of many why Obama is a joke just as much as McCain....

unfortunately there are very weak 3rd party canidates this time and I don't think there has been a really viable one since Ted Roosevelt actually won in the early part of this century.

Americans in this day and age want to gamble with no risk. That's one reason the federal government is as large as it is. Even the wealthy want to be well taken care of (see financial bailout)

This politicial system is about marketing; money; political standing and how particular canidates vote for thier lobbiests.

The basic one man one vote dosen't exist. There really is no point in voting in this presidential election. I'm voting locally definately and that's where most governmental powers should lie because that's where we have more effect on how we are governed. The electoral college elects the president. So this throwing your vote away garbage is a fallacy but the American public seem to like going along with that... and as long as they have thier special projects; handouts; religion and guns and the roads are paved they stay happy enough to continue electing people who are more concerned with thier power ability to rise in the political establishment and then their memoirs and legacy than any kind of public service or the betterment of the country and world. That's all secondary or part of their library later on when they are closer to death.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
