A cataclysmic volcanic erruption...It would spew enough ash into the sky to blanket the sun for months and thus a drop in sea temperature.....

A cataclysmic volcanic erruption...It would spew enough ash into the sky to blanket the sun for months and thus a drop in sea temperature.....

Wouldn't that also put enough ozone-depleting chemicals up there that things would be worse when the ash cleared out?
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

I don't know how all of the chemicals would react.....

Volcanic activity is the leading cause of greenhouse gases.

yes some of its compounds do attribute to greenhouse effects...but in this theory, the ash from the eruption would block the sun which would create a drop in temperature......

I think a drop in temperature would possibly kill us and many other life forms on the planet.

  • I remember reading somewhere that when Krakatoa erupted in 1883 I believe, global temperatures dropped in the following years as the ash made its way around the world a few times and slowly fell out of the atmosphere. That was one helluvan explosion though.
The ash from the eruption of Mt. St. Helens travelled the globe for a few years, but I don't believe it had the same effect.
I guess it would be hard to prove that a volcanic eruption could cause a drop in global temperature, but it does seem like a likely theory.
