Dennis Kucinich advised his supporters Tuesday that if he failed to garner enough backers in the first round of the Iowa caucuses, they should throw their support behind Sen. Barack Obama.
The surprise move is a setback for John Edwards, who benefited from a similar caucus pact with Kucinich on the eve of voting in 2004.
"I hope Iowans will caucus for me as their first choice this Thursday, Kucinich said in a statement to the press. "But in those caucus locations where my support doesn't reach the necessary threshold, I strongly encourage all of my supporters to make Barack Obama their second choice. Sen. Obama and I have one thing in common: Change."
Second choices can be crucial in Iowa where candidates who do not receive the backing of 15 percent of the caucus voters at any particular precinct are deemed not "viable." Their supporters can then throw their support behind another candidate.
In a race as tight as the Democratic contest in Iowa, the support from former backers of second-tier candidates can be crucial on caucus Night.
In a statement emailed out to reporters, Obama thanked the veteran Ohio Congressman for his support.
"I have a lot of respect for Congressman Kucinich, and I'm honored that he has done this because we both believe deeply in the need for fundamental change," said Senator Obama.

VERY interesting
edwards
i still say it is an Obama/Edwards ticket
and they crush the Republican candidates in November...
I want to like edwards but he is a borderline socialist. but I agree, that ticket can beat any republican ticket and I'm looking forward to a nice change.
Edwards seems like a logical choice, but I'm not sure if he wants to run again as a VP. If not Edwards then I don't have any idea. I would love to see it be Joe Biden.

good call. I like Biden. he comes across as a very smart, tell ya how it is, kinda guy.

I've thought that as well.

I agree... And while I think the Edwards VP choice might help the electability of the ticket, the best choice to actually do the job (whatever that is post-cheney) is Bill Richardson. He has some experience (executive, foreign affairs, etc) that could make up for Obama's weaknesses.

I don't think a African American/Latino American ticket would go over to well at all with a lot of voters, sad to say.

I have never thought that. But now that you mention it, it makes sense...
thats how us delaware folks roll...
whether you like it or not
and both have refused lobbyist donations i believe?
I would have no problem putting that bumper sticker on my car...or my wifes if I am still in a job where I can't be partisan.

No fucking way. She won't be the nominee. i guarantee it. She has no chance of winning the general election. i know it, she knows it, and the democratic party knows it.
why doesnt she?
i hear this alot... the people that dont have a chance are the republicans... mickey mouse would win the general election against this batch of republican whacko's
seriously folks... why is everyone assuming Hillary couldnt win the general election? because republicans hate her for no reason? is that the only reason? if so, that wouldnt affect her at all...
because she is too far left. there are still many undecided voters who would rather have someone who is willing to be more towards the middle. seems as if she has a solid base but not enough sway the undecideds. I could be wrong, I dont know.
that makes no sense...
vote for who who you want...
she is the "middle" candidate if you ask me... (of all the major candidates on both sides in my opinion)
and that is why i am not voting for her...
a country that stays far divided isnt a good thing imo
he is in favor of raising the Social Security Tax cap... which is a no brairer in my book... hillary is against it... which is one of the main reasons i do not support her
Its not just republicans. i'm definitely not one of those, and i pretty much hate her as well. it has nothing to do with the fact she's a woman either. She's a phony bitch. Period. she simply isn't likable. Even she knows she cannot win a general election. She talks a great deal about experience. But really what experience does SHE really have? Being first lady? Besides its true that one cannot at once boast about their experience as a Washingtom insider, and pledge to be the agent that will change all that. She knows she probably will not even win the nomination which is wy she has resorted to mudslinging as a campaign platform. Its not just republicans that don't like her. Its a significant percentage of her own party and independant and undecided, on the fence voters as well, which is EXACTLY why she has zero chance in the general election. The hard core republicans who hate her so much will not be voting for ANY Democratic candidate regardless. Those aren't the winning votes she wont be getting. Its all those other folks that might vote Democrat but will not vote for HER. Alot of people really liked and trusted her husband. She's banking on that which is the only reason she's still married to the guy. It isn't going to work.
You are right about one thing. Mckey mouse could probably beat the republicans. Hilary, on the other hand, cannot.
My thoughts on this are who gives a shit about either of those characteristics, the dems don't need the south to win. Let the south keep supporting Repubs, they're/me in KY are the ones getting fucked in this whole deal with Republicans. Fuck all they have to do to is keep what they won in the last election and win Ohio, my god if neither one of them can at least do that it's pitiful. I think if I won the primaries and put my name on the Dem ticket I could at least keep what was won in 04 and add Ohio. Jeez, I'm so tired of hearing that argument from people. If the south can't support either candidate so be it, we don't need their vote regardless. I do have a feeling Obama could easily win Georgia and South Carolina though.
BTW, I would prefer not have Hilary as president. Not a fan, sorry.

You don't have to worry about that. She won't win a general election. No way. As, i've said, it has nothing to do wth the fact that she's a woman. AS a matter of fact thats one thing she has in her favor, IMO. She just isn't likeable, or trustworthy. She is phoney baloney, plastic, politician. If the democratic party nominates her, they are shooting themselves in the foot...
again.
