Lobbyist/Obama NH Chair enters national conversation
One of Barack Obama's four New Hampshire co-chairs, who is also one of the state's most prominent lobbyists, entered the conversation of the Democratic presidential race last night with this phrase from Hillary Clinton at the debate:
"When it comes to lobbyists, you know that Senator Obama's chair in New Hampshire is a lobbyist. He lobbies for the drug companies."
"Not true," said Obama.
But it is true.
And while the lobbyist, named Jim Demers, is usually a staple of the spin room circuit, he was nowhere to be found last night. (He also has not returned a call to the Globe.)
Who is Demers?
Demers heads up a lobby firm of his own name, The Demers Group. He was also a Democratic nominee for Congress in 1986. He is respected by legislative leaders from both parties and is relied on by reporters to be very knowledgeable with the latest statehouse rumor or how pieces of legislation are moving. He is also a frequent Democratic analyst for WMUR-TV.
He gives thousands in contributions to the state Democratic Party and Democratic campaigns. In 2004, he headed up campaign for Dick Gephardt in the state. And to aid in that effort Demers purchased an RV from eBay that he then drove around the state with Gephardt to campaign events.

Saturday's debate, in the face of an explicit charge from Clinton, Obama denied that his New Hampshire co-chair Jim Demers is a lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry: "That's not so." said Obama

In fact, as you can see here, it is a true fact that Demers is registered to lobby for Pfizer and PhRMA.

standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

Obama has a cabinet? This is news to me. And just how do you plagiarize yourself???
And you try giving 3 or 4 speeches a day (most of with without a tele-prompter) for 2 years straight, and see if you don't repeat phrases that people around have said a few times.
And he does write the majority of his speeches.
As for the original post, yes, that is an issue that hurts his credibility, I can't argue that. While a state chair isn't really the closest position to a candidate, it definitely doesn't look good.
was like a picture

maybe, but the point isn't how close the chair of his new hampshire campaign was to him, the point is he said on national tv that it wasn't true when the reality is it WAS true!!!
now, you said it hurts his credibility so this wasn't as much a reply to you as the point of you can't claim to have nothing to do w/ lobbyists when they chair your election campaigns!!!
i saw another youtube video on this but didn't post it b/c it was rather long and the last 1/2 was about the menacing iranian boats threatening our destroyers or whatever for some reason....maybe i will look for it later and post it, but some news channel had one of obamas ppl on and they asked a few times why he shook his head no and said 'that's not true' when it is...the guy dodged the question repeatedly then came up w/ some bs excuse that he's only a lobbyist on the state level, not federal. then the interviewer asked well why didn't obama say that then? and the guy just repeated the bs that he's a state lobbyist, not federal...but does it matter much???
