THE PRESIDENT: The point that I would emphasize to you is that the threat from Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction, chemical, biological, potentially nuclear weapons capability, that threat is real. We only need to look at the report from the International Atomic Agency this morning showing what has been going on at the former nuclear weapons sites to realize that. And the policy of inaction is not a policy we can responsibly subscribe to. So the purpose of our discussion today is to work out the right strategy for dealing with this, because deal with it we must.
THE PRESIDENT: AP lady.
Q Mr. President, can you tell us what conclusive evidence of any nuclear -- new evidence you have of nuclear weapons capabilities of Saddam Hussein?
THE PRESIDENT: We just heard the Prime Minister talk about the new report. I would remind you that when the inspectors first went into Iraq and were denied -- finally denied access, a report came out of the Atomic -- the IAEA that they were six months away from developing a weapon. I don't know what more evidence we need.

“There’s never been a report like that issued from this agency,” Mark Gwozdecky, the IAEA’s chief spokesman, said yesterday in a telephone interview from the agency’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
“We’ve never put a time frame on how long it might take Iraq to construct a nuclear weapon in 1998,” said the spokesman of the agency charged with assessing Iraq’s nuclear capability for the United Nations.
The White House says Mr. Bush was referring to an earlier IAEA report.
“He’s referring to 1991 there,” said Deputy Press Secretary Scott McClellan. “In ’91, there was a report saying that after the war they found out they were about six months away.”
Mr. Gwozdecky said no such report was ever issued by the IAEA in 1991.

“Based on all credible information to date the IAEA has found no indication of Iraq having achieved a nuclear weapons program or of Iraq having retained a physical capability for the production of weapon-useable nuclear material or having clandestinely obtained such material.”

ummm... excuse me, but I think he actually did both
was like a picture

“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”

I think bush acts the idiot but is not, afterall he is in power.
The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.
If you think bush acts aloof and clueless now, just wait until some of the direct questioning about events hits the fan afterwards...mark my words, the best is yet to come. We may even get some drooling
Keep in mind it is a bit of a witch hunt though in all fairness, however, to hang a war on "gee guys I didn't know" is going to be a really tough sell to the public.
man...sucks to be him...

Bill Maher is a pompous ass.
Why does he make your brain hurt?

no, I put him in the same category as Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbo, Glenn Beck, etc. Idiots on all sides of the fence.
One side supports the don't question the facts from above...and another guy supports actually thinking about things for a change. Blindly obey, v.s. actually think.
there's a humanitarian and environmental factor involved with Bill as well.
Seems kinda different if you ask me...

hey man, that's your opinion. I've given the guy a shot on many occassions. I just don't care for his "delivery".
So you must not like comedians in general..or maybe very few comedians I should say? They all have some form of over the top delivery..
Colbert...Stewart same reaction?
To each his own...for sure.

not accurate at all, I get a kick out of Colbert and Stewart..........Maher just comes off as a condecending dick most of the time.
I consider the actual words he says over delivery...and given the topics he chooses and direction of approach ..which is head on...it all fits..

maher is funny if you actually believe that anyone of faith is an idiot, and everyone from the south is a heyseed hillbilly...maher is funny if you think anyone who has a differing opinion is a blithering idiot...the guy just regurgitates stereotypes that most of you have about people from the other side...that's the thing about libs...they are so self-loathing, and bitter, it's hard to come across as funny to regular people.
that's not to say i don't think there aren't any funny libs out there, b/c j-stu is definately funny...as is colbert...
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things

stereotypes are funny. 95% of most comedians make a living off of them.

and what are your thoughts on the original post?

I tend to agree. The thing is, is that he doesn't rely on a shtick exclusively. He brings logic and fact to the table where as the opposition is strictly, and insultingly shtick.

you know my take...the bastard is a lying blood-thirsty war-monger, and maniacly tied saddam huessein to 9/11, without actually tying the two...he's the epitome of evil

so, in the instance i quoted in my original post, you do think he lied?

this is a retread from a year ago, he cited the wrong agency, yes, obviously he's lying. just like all the connections he made between saddam and 9/11.
you know, creating a bunch of dots to be connected is a lot easier than connecting those already out there, but you may find more success by choosing the latter path.
