first, i don't think this is some big decisive or divisive issue, it's a nonissue to me, i'm not gonna vote for him either way....so i'm not posting this as some big bombshell or anything, just something i happened upon and found mildly interesting and wasn't sure if it was true or not

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10172007/news/regionalnews/dissing_cousins__obama__cheney.htm

ctober 17, 2007 -- Who says Barack Obama doesn't have what it takes to be president? Turns out, he's a distant cousin of both Dick Cheney and George Bush.

The vice president's wife, Lynne Cheney, announced her discovery yesterday while hawking her new book, "Blue Skies, No Fences," on MSNBC.

When asked if she would support Hillary Rodham Clinton because she is a woman, Lynne Cheney said, "I have to admit to a certain bias here . . . Dick and Barack Obama are eighth cousins."

Mrs. Cheney said that it was "an amazing American story that one ancestor . . . could be responsible down the family line for lives that have taken such different and varied paths."

Then asked if she supported Obama she quickly said, "No."

Obama's camp made light of the family ties. "Every family has a black sheep," said spokeswoman Jen Psaki, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

The Chicago Sun-Times revealed the genealogical link in early September, claiming that the shared ancestors were Mareen and Susannah Duvall, 17th century immigrants from France.

The newspaper, however, claimed that the senator from Illinois and the vice president were 11th cousins.

The Duvalls are Obama's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents, and Cheney's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents, the paper said.

George W. Bush and Obama, meanwhile, are 10th cousins once removed - linked through a 17th century Massachusetts couple, Samuel Hinckley and Sarah Soole, according to the Sun-Times.

It's got really bad around here lately for this.
For a while, you can just smile and say 'whatever', and take it with a bit of a laugh and then move on the the next thread and hope that it might be interesting. After a while though, after wading through some of the ridiculous things that are posted here, it eventually gets on your nerves. It's an insult to a normal persons intelligence and it gets old, really really quickly.

first: what does this have to do w/ nader????
second: i guess it doesn't matter to anyone that i never said i was voting for nader, i did say i'd consider it but as of now i'm voting for someone else
and lastly: i didn't think it was a big deal, it was just mildly interesting and i was curious

What is the deal about posting this? Sheesh.

No one acted like this was ground breaking new info....just something that he happened upon and thought was interesting.

    Fucking relax a bit.

What else has been posted that's sooo fucking ridiculous by us Nader folk? I'd realllllly be curious to see what your gripe is.

and no, i have plenty of obama stuff i can post...i don't hear anyone crying about all the hillary threads...perhaps you all couldn't wear your bias so openly on your sleeves?

maybe i should post some groundbreaking stuff like this

    or this

i was kinda caught between posting a video on a top advisor of obama's and his role in horrible foreign policies in the 80's and 90's (which he says he wants to model his after) or some lies he's told about lobbyists and his/their support

If you think about it us is about 400 years old, it's not that much. So if you take time to look, you'd find that most americans are related.

yes, but don't forget immigrants. not much of a melting pot if everyone is already related. anyway, it's a nonissue for me, i wouldn't vote for him either way...as i already said i just thought it was a mildly interesting factoid, not something for some ppl to get so upset over

Abook, firstly i never said anything about ridiculous posts by 'nader folk'. The 'nader folk' was not my words. I was alluding to the Spinbrett and GauchoB posts, when i said it's got really bad around here lately for this.

I'm actually a bit offended that you are telling me to relax a bit because i don't feel as though i attacked Kabong. I was just stating how it feels sometimes, by saying that after a while, it feels like an insult to a normal persons intelligence. I have no problem at all with anything that may be posted against Obama as long as it encourages healthy debate. I just don't see what the point of Kabongs post was. Everyone is related to someone, if you care to go back far enough. Kabongs heading at the beginning of the post 'is this true' was almost like the start of one of Spinbretts posts.

What did he want us to say???? Yes of course it's true if you go back far enough on anyones family history.

You say to me 'fucking relax a bit'. What's with the hostility?

If you even read back through my threads you would have seen that i have not had a problem with you or kabong, in fact i have been a supporter of yours even though i don't always agree with everything you say.

But feel free to jump to conclusions about what i feel about 'Nader Folk'

I guess I read your tone wrong then...to me, you seemed ticked off and I didn't see a reason to be.

I don't think he expected you to say anything. It wasn't posted to say 'how could you support this guy when he's related to Cheney?!' Like he said, it was posted as an interesting factoid. I told him to post a grinny face with it so you guys wouldn't feel he was saying it was some dire issue that needed to be addressed.

As far as the Nader folk comment...you followed up someone's remarks who seemingly had a gripe with things posted by Nader supporters (apparently it was a joke so that's cool) and said what you did so to me it wasn't a stretch to think you were including us in your point. If you weren't then I apologize for jumping to conclusions but it just wasn't clear to me based on what you said. And I wasn't hostile though I did you the word 'fucking' but that was because I felt you were worked up...no worries, it's hard to sense tones on these message boards. :)

  • And for the record, I can't stand the stupid threads posted about Obama, Hillary or McCain. Those silly threads are used to discredit anyone's valid issue with whichever candidate. And I've noticed people will lump all complaints, that are actually made based on plenty of substance, about whomever into the same category with these silly points instead of addressing them. So yeah, they bug the shit outta me, too.

I havnt checked the boards in a while so when I saw that the Mighty E_K had posted this redundancy, my first thought was "He's worn out, can I blame him?"

Anyway, he and books threads, even when 6 month old news, or if one disagrees, are still more informative and interesting than 2/3rds of the posters on here who are all hot air and no real substance.*snooze*

He's edited his post since i posted my original reply. The 'first, i don't think this is some big decisive or divisive issue, it's a nonissue to me, i'm not gonna vote for him either way....so i'm not posting this as some big bombshell or anything, just something i happened upon and found mildly interesting and wasn't sure if it was true or not' was initially just 'is this true'.

I wouldn't have said what i did if the edited post was there originally. But that's ok, now i look like a complete and utter fuckhead.
