Anyone else have a problem voting...?

My wait was not long at all, maybe 20 minutes. I completed my paper ballot, and went to submit it. I know where to place the ballot in the machine, and when I went to do so, the worker at the machine told me to place my ballot in a slot below the area where I normally put the ballot...

I said "doesn't this go here?" pointing to the area where it should go...

worker: "well, it's spitting the ballots back out, so just put it here(pointing to the open slot below the normal area) and we will run them through the machine later when it's working"....

I've submitted a report to the obama campaign and to http://www.866ourvote.org...

ugh..

Now I feel like a dummy for not putting up more of a fuss...maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'm a bit worried...

There were several workers running around and helping others. There were a bunch of ballots in the box already...

Hindsight says I should have asked to speak to the person in charge, but I didn't...

Where did you vote in wilmington? I'm doing it at some CFCC building on 3rd st....can't go until after 4 though.
  • this sucks...
I actually got to watch mine get counted. I was the 29th voter early this AM at my precinct.
Where I live there are lawyers appointed to both the local Republican and Democrat headquarters that you can consult if you are concerned about voting issues.
If I were you I'd also contact your local Democrat HQ just to get the ball rolling and for peace of mind.

    Good news...

I just got a call from Election Protection...and based on my description of my problem, there is not anything to be concerned about. I was told what happened was standard procedure, i.e.,placing the ballot in a secondary area when the machine is out of service....

    I feel better...

I'll break it down like this I got into it a little with the officials. My problem I had a voter card and ID ready and the oficials said I didn't neither. So Iasked what if I have the info of my name, full address and date of birth AND I happen to be somebody else. How do you know I'm who I say I'm? She just said that's ALL we need to know I wow like wow, I can easily be impersonated.

  • The goal is to get people through the lines. They will work out the "problem ballots" afterwards. They have to keep things moving. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.

If you voted for Obama then you are fine. If you voted for Mccain then you are screwed.

  • If the "open slot below the normal area" made a loud obnoxious shredding sound as you inserted your ballot I'd say there could be a problem.

I saw that report ... their new ballots are like ours ...

essentially ... it looks like this ...

    Candidate A <---- (space)

    Candidate B <---- (space)

and you're supposed to connect the line so the optical scanner will pick it up as a full solid line ... some people are just putting an X in the middle. following instructions, c'mon people ... it's not rocket science.

edit, there's supposed to be a large space in that line ... but ... the formatting won't let me insert spaces between the dashes ...

I saw that too I drive by that court house everyday to work when I'm there. That's my second home for six months come December.

The ballots are kicked back for not making the second page. It's given back to the voter and then you mark no for NOT filling out or fill out that second page and then the machine will accept that ballot vote.
