Ultimate Sacrifice: Bush Quit Golf For The Troops
By: SilentPatriot on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 at 11:30 AM - PDT
If he really cared about the troops, he would have quit the Presidency.
AP:
US President George W. Bush said in an interview out Tuesday that he quit playing golf in 2003 out of respect for the families of US soldiers killed in the conflict in Iraq, now in its sixth year.
“I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal,” he said in an interview for Yahoo! News and Politico magazine.
“I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf,” he said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them.”
UPDATE: (Nicole) Uh oh. Telling the truth is hard apparently:
Warren Street at Blue Girl, Red State says that Bush is lying about why (and when) he quit golf:
Actually, it is far more likely that Bush quit playing golf because he was suffering from knee problems throughout the latter half of 2003.
Street then links to a CBS News article published in December 2003[..]
Bush actually played his last round of golf on October 13, 2003. This means that the reason he gave for quitting after the August 2003 U.N. bombing is dubious at best. More likely, he made the story up in a clumsy ploy to gain sympathy. In many regions and cultures around the world, this is called “lying.”
See video of the Politico interview here. And who could forget this gem, made famous by Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

I wonder what all the haters are going to do with their free time once Bush leaves office. Not having to find conspiracy theories in everything the man does and says is going to free up a lot of space on a lot of people's schedules...
he he...haters....
I haven't heard that one in a while...an oldee but a goodee..
I think Bush fired up a bunch of folks who had a more passing interest in politics. I know when his daddy was president there was a whole lot more to like. I think it may be that when your president has the looks and mental aptitude of a war mongering chimpanzee it tends to bother people, even lazy Americans that normally could give a rat's ass about politics.
He was pulled from the golf course and told to stop playing because it makes him look like a phenomenal ass in the media.
"Iraq is a disaster....uhhhh....I'm goin fishin..."
smart call..
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

What a nice honorable guy.... If only everybody else would have given up golf, this world would be a better more peaceful place...
"We're going to get those terrorists, now watch this drive".
"Its a secret to everybody."
awesome.
him saying he gave up golf in respect for the troops shows about as much respect as the people who put stickers on their cars that say "support the troops". it doesn't do shit.
the problem is the perception that he (or the sticker folks) are somehow doing something to support the troops. if you really wanted to support the troops, you would get them the fuck out of iraq and out of harms way. back with their families.
What a major douchebag.
