Other races in your area...It's not just the Prez

Anything interesting in your area beside McCain/Obama to say?

Here in Minnesota, there is a fascinating Senate Race between Incumbent Norm Coleman (in thanks to the death of Paul Wellstone, the only candidate I've ever given money to) and Al Franken. Months ago I assumed it would be Norm in a route, but Franken's keeping it close and may win. Some here even think the primary 3rd party candidate (Dean Barkley) has an outside shot because the campaign has been pretty nasty. I bet the GOP has spent more on this than any other race outside of President. The focus is primarily on painting Franken as angry and politically incorrect because of his jokes. It'll be tight, but I predict Barkley takes more away from Franken and that Norm Coleman retains his seat.

Congress:
My District (I live in St. Paul): (D) Betty McCollum should sail to victory.

My childhood District: (D) Keith Ellison (I am proud to have grown up in the District that elected a Muslim) will win re-election easily. Hard to believe he's been in for nearly two years and not brought the country down.

Sixth District. Nutjob Michelle Bachman is trying to retain her seat. I suspect her opponent, El Tinklenberg, has recieved a ton of money from outside the district. I think it's close. It's a conservative district, but I think her call for McCarthyistic inquires into who is/is not "pro-American" will do her in. Ding Dong the Witch is dead! (I cautiously hope).
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

NICE! I don't even see why this is an issue! Of COURSE they should have the same rights as heterosexuals. DUUUUUUUH. What happened to equal rights?

Didn't some guy in Wash (I want to say his name was Rossi) run as a "GOP PARTY" candidate, removing the word "Republican" from his name?

I'll have to find that story.

The main reasons that I voted this year:
    1. NO on I-1000/assisted suicide.

    2. I want Dino Rossi to be the governor of Washington state. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/editorialsopinion/2008279880_edit19rossiendorse.html

Because discrimination is cool, fool
  • While voting for Obama wasn't particularly exciting for me, some of the California ballot measures were worth the time--which turned out to either be votes on how to best discriminate and dig the state further into debt.

Only eight seemed to get a lot of airtime around here though--some of the most patently ridiculous shit I've heard in awhile. While I voted no on eight, I have a hard time with the Teacher's Union being used to push all kinds of votes. Seems unlikely that all teacher's feel one way or the other about anything at all and unfair to try and imply that they do. Especially on television in terms of highly divisive topics.

All in all, I won't miss the political commercials after today. Especially the ones for T. Boone Pickens...you would think he was running for President. Every time you turn on the television you see his face.

Count me as one who voted for Dean Barkley because of the other 2 idiots and their smear-campaign tactics.

I also had the joy of voting in the 3rd district to replace Jim Ramstad. With Erik Paulson and Ashwin Madia being the mainstream choices, I once again went 3rd with David Dillon.
