Talking about his family roots and how he's distantly related to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the vice president noted that he had Cheneys on both sides of his family. "And we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney quipped.

Maybe Cheney should think about that "one drop rule" under the old Jim Crow era.

Maybe Cheney should follow that "people who live in glass houses" rule when it comes to homosexuals.

Oh please. Cheney's only mistake was making a joke that probably 80% of people in this country have made out loud and in public. It's only news and criticism worthy because he's Cheney.

Honestly, in the grand scheme of things where does this rank on the list of the worst things Dick Cheney has ever done?

A lot of people on here make similar, ignorant comments about the south.

Yes, but we're not the Vice President of the United States. Not that I hold Cheney to a high standard or anything considering how this administration has fucked over the American people for the last 8 disastrous years, but it is highly inappropriate for the VP to make such comments.

So basically you're holding him to a higher standard.

Not that you're right, not that you're wrong but it is what you're doing.

Of course he should be held to a higher standard that what us yahoos say on a Pearl Jam message board. He is one step away of being president of the united states, he should not make negative comments/stereotypes about one of the states.

You are right, while people may agreed that they have made similar remarks, we're not Cheney, the Vice President of the United States speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Of course, it was going to get media coverage. So yes, he deserves some criticism for forgetting the title he carries and that when he speaks in the capacity of Vice President he speaks for the people and that includes the people of West Virginia.

Well, the standard is higher than of the folks on the PJ message board. He is afterall the VP of the United States, and it is inappropriate and unprofessional for someone in his position to make such comments. But for perspective, this is small potatoes compared to all the destruction he's caused over the last 8 years.

Well said. Actually most of the comments here were pretty good.

Especially the part about this issue being nothing compared to the damage Cheney's done.

So true...it's nice to see the kind of people they can align themselves in agreement with now...completely ignorant and stereoptypical driven loud mouths like Cheney.
