Yeah, it pains me to think how hard it must be to live in a country which is responsible for a 30 year crime against humanity. My heart bleeds for them.

Sorry, I just recently made great friends with someone from Israel. The look in her eyes when discussing everything broke my heart. She is not happy with what is happening there, much in the way I get disgusted with the American administration.

The difference is that she has been very close to the violence. Having to go to work while literally being able to see bombs drop on her home town. Huddling in a stairwell as the building a half of a block away is destroyed by a bomb. Knowing that she could die anytime just by being in the same place as a suicide bomber.

I simply can't imagine what it's like to live in that kind of environment.

I've been there as well (went there with several friends, two of whom were Israeli themselves). It is as Urban Hiker describes.

oh, absolutely. The fact that you can be 1 of 50 people who died in... what.... 5-6 years?

don't give me that bullshit... what you're describing is the life of a Palestinian, only you left out curfews, being limited to going anywhere, etc...

Just because they don't have it as bad as the Palestinians, it does not mean they have nothing to fear. And it certainly doesn't mean I can't have empathy for what my Israeli friend goes through as part of her life.

BTW - A lot of what happens to the Israelis does not get reported. Showing dead mutilated bodies is considered disrespectful. I was surprised to see a lot what I did in the Henry Rollins doc I mentioned in an earlier post.

That said, I don't agree with or in any way advocate what is happening to the Palestinians. I just want my friend to be safe.

It's not just that they don't have it as bad as Palestinians, in general, they have little to fear from the Palestinian side. Rocket attacks really cause little damage to the Israelis. Civilians in Israel actually live a pretty good life.

And "a lot of what happens does not get reported"? Please give me examples of this. I know the body counts, I know about the rocket attacks, I know what's been going on... it's really not much to report...

I know there are Israelis who want peace, who sometimes can be scared (or something), but to dramatize everything by saying that sometimes they have to hide because of fear of getting bombed is just plain bullshit.

I'm not saying you agree with what's happening to the Palestinians, either. I'm not ignorant enough to assume you do when you clearly didn't say anything like that.
