It calls for moderate muslims to do more to criticise Islamic theology, which I think is needed. All other religions go through intense scrutiny, criticism and debate but when I go on a religion board and some of the Islamic posters have a mindset where you can see that they just won't acknowledge that anything can be "wrong" with their religion.

Anyway just thought some of you might want to read it.

Interesting article. Some valid points that should be made more often.

Radical Islam is not just the product of Western policies. It's not something that will go away if Islamists demands were met. The West can/does make mistakes in dealing with it, but there is also responsibility on the Islamic community to recognize theological issues that can be taken to extremist positions relatively easily.

That was interesting. It's too bad though that he doesn't give an explanation on how someone goes from moderate muslim (or even atheist) to fundamentalism. That path could also be a part of a solution.

Well in britain the govt has been doing some stuff around a strategy called Preventing Violent Extremism (http://www.communities.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1509398) which talks about working with muslim communities and things like madrassas and imams. I suppose it's a start, I don't know how effective the thing is but it depends on the communities to get into it as well I suppose.

Nice little read, thanks. Reminds me of the show I watched last week on how the "mole/rat" got those young minds, "filled with hate" to start to draw a plan up for bomings in Canada and getting the PM and whatnot, and then turned them to the police. Not too far off from what this guy is going on about. Start by getting people to believe in the real world, ie: the one you actually live in. And wean them off this belief of a eden awaiting and the whole of mankind may just see a real light. Nothing wrong with believing in an afterlife, but you don't need to get there too fast, eh.
You've changed your place in this world!

Very good article, intresting to see that it really has nothing to do with all these wars and the usual bollox spouted by the goverments of "they hate us for our freedoms"

It just further proves the spin used by our goverments to justify wars.
Keep on rockin in the free world!!!!

The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.

It's not just the government, the thing about the terrorists is that they are fundamentalists - regardless of what religion they are, its fundamentalism itself that is the problem, which means the complete adherence to a particular belief system with no room for dialogue, debate or criticism. These particular terrorists are not fighting for independence or territory or anything but over their ideas, which is the problem here.

Indeed i understand that but the goverments do use all the fundamentlists actions to there own advantage. To think they don't is naive.
