Our local airport was just taken over by the New York - New Jersey Port Authority which runs all the major airports in and around NYC. The spokesman said it could be the first carbon negative airport anywhere.
This I gotta see.
Port Authority exec says Stewart airport will be 'carbon-negative'
NEW WINDSOR — Stewart International Airport should become “the world’s first carbon-negative airport” and show the way to offsetting the pollution problems rising air travel will bring.
That was the vision revealed by Anthony Shorris, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Shorris said, “Cleaner and greener is now the order of the day,” and said Stewart can be a “test bed” for new technologies. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will be the main research partner, Shorris said.

I don't know how they plan on doing this but the Port Authority of NY/NJ has taken on a lot of initiatives to try to curb their carbon footprint.
the airport in question is actually quite far from the city-- where the "new york" attitude is big. stewart is a nice airport if you live in the hudson valley (or surrounding areas) and don't feel like driving into the city and dealing with traffic.
NYers don't have attitudes. We are some of the nicest people you will meet, just don't stand in the middle of the sidewalk cluelessly during rush hours.
But is it a real international airport where you can actually make flights overseas, or is it just a small airport where most of its flights are to the major airports in the region, with a few flights to Canada so it can call itself an international airport.
If you want to go to Florida you're all set!
Thats interesting, I have been to a lot of similar type airports so I was curious to the size of this one (since I had never heard of it). Hopefully their plan will work well and can be expanded to other airports, since if it works there are probably hundreds of other airports the same system could be tried at.
