One of the things that I am most proud of during my first term as a county legislator is that we created a Department of the Environment for the County. As far as we know, we are the first county to do so.
We will concentrate on U.S. Green Building Council's Leed standards for county building, reducing the County governments carbon footprint, alternative energy business development incentives and alternative fuel vehicles for our fleet among other things.
I thought I would share that with some people who may appreciate it. It hasn't quite sunk in locally how progressive this move is, but in 5 years or so, when everyone else in New York State does it, we will be way ahead of the game and hopefully a model for other counties.
