They're the "old lilacs" which just means that they are the older plants that haven't been genetically altered. Some of the brighter/darker/different colored ones are hybrids and they don't smell as good.

it does sorta resemble a plasma globe
knew it was some type of perennial...so i did a lil research and found out it's a mountain cornflower
from what i've read they bloom until fall. now that i'm aware of where they grow so close by...it's likely i'll be taking lotsa shots of these lovelies
