I've been wanting to start another thread of my other favorite photo subject...rocks! Thought it was appropriate to start with rocks from Ledbetter Beach in Santa Barbara, California...

Awesome pictures. I like rocks too, but now I'll have to pull my head out of the clouds and start looking down and around. Very neat bone, has it petrified?

not sure if you would call it petrified however, it is fossil...weighs heavy like a rock and when i thump it with fingers it sounds as though i'm thumping an object made of a porcelein [even though it is not]...~********************************

From the Denver Nature and Science Museum - The Alma stone found in Colorado in a cave. It naturally formed just like this...6 inches across surrounded by quartz.Nothing divine dies. Wow, that is freaking amazing. It forms in a natural square shape? Isn't nature amazing and awe-inspiring. Thanks for sharing that.

It formed just like that. It's called the Alma King and is the world's largest Rhodochrosite crystal. They have a video on loop next to the display showing the find. It was in the wall of the cave just like it is in the picture perfectly square. They took part of the cave wall to put on display. Which I'm a bit bothered by...taking a hunk of the cave out of the habitat...but it was found in a mine so the land was already being pieced away. If they hadn't chopped it out who knows if I would have ever learned about it and posted the picture here and I may not have stumbled across this either (isn't it ironic)...in crystal healing...it helps in the development of inner freedom by helping to resolve inner conflicts...Nothing divine dies.
