that's cool. do you think it needed more depth then, or more vibrant colours?
Well, to be fair, this is a digital image, and it is in an angle, so there is some distortion.
If you think of the painting panels as:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
panels 2, 4, and 6 seem to lose your focal points. (although I love the branches in 2!!) Look at the Depth created in panel 1!!!!! You really get a sense of violent tension that can explode any second!!
This would be stronger if this spilled over into rest of the left side of the piece. Also it would be more dramatic if some of the brightness was reflected on the right side. (not too, too much, though)
Over all I do like it, but not as a finished piece. (Does that make sense?)
With the panels displayed like that, What is the overall size? I couldn't tell by the picture.
Moon on panel 3 is haunting as well (I can't seem to place it - ha ha)
I have done printmaking myself, and actually received a BFA, which unfortunately is useless to me anymore.
I would love an honest opinion of some of my work.
My print is Untitled (MICHAEL M BROWN) (3rd from the top)
After looking at it now (I made it 11 yrs ago) It is a bit unimpressive as it did long ago, but it will give you an idea as to my style.
Fellow artist out....

thanks for your reply vitalpj10. i appreciate the compliment about panel 1, as you say. i would agree that i would have liked to drag a touch of the blending from panel one down into panel four, but other than that, the rest is fairly intentional. the right side, especially, is meant to be very dark, almost to the point where you can't see it, almost black.
the tree is supposed to represent "jeremy"...and so "king jeremy ruled his world"... he holds the day in one hand (the sun)...and in his other the darkness of night (the moon)...so it's very hard to see what's going on in the dark half...and the trees below..."the dead lay in pools of maroon below" are meant to look very dead. the two halves are meant to be opposites of each other, so that is why i wouldn't bring any reflection of one side to the other, if that makes sense...hope this helps explain the painting a little bit more...
the piece is intended to be viewed as one painting, if you know what i mean, so it hangs about 3.5'-3.75' by 3.5'-3.75' feet when it is on the wall.
i would be anxious to see more of your work, as i can't tell much from the one piece...you say you did it a while ago. maybe you could share some more recent stuff if you geta chance and give us a better idea of what you're doing now. your style i find intriguing, i will say that sorry i can't comment more on the one piece...
This stuff is amazing. So, just out of curiousity, what would a commissioned piece run a fellow jammer?
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

hey vitalpj10,
i really like your print... there is indeed great texture, as you described....
as for our friend Mookie's work.... i urge you to check out the rest of his website, and his other paintings....
my personal favorites are "The Day I Met Gord Downie", and "Brian"... IMO, they have GREAT depth... even though they are simple black & white images, to me, they jump off the page!!
i think it takes great skill to give such life to something in only one colour.
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
what if you're a jammer and from the east coast...is there a price category for that? hehe
my real questions are....
are all the pieces on your site available for sale?
would you take a suggestion and then create a piece based on said suggestion?
the in between is mine

what are your goals?
do you want to sell your pieces or do you want exposure and/or enter shows, etc?
thanks gluten, i was just joking around
all my pieces from the site are sold except one or two, and i do shows whenever i have enough spare material around. fortunately, there are plenty of willing bars and coffee shops here in halifax...so finding a show is not hard if people like your stuff.

hey cakebaker, all of the stuff on the site is sold with the exception of a piece or two. i'm always open to doing custom pieces.
"sometimes we did"... i like the title. if you'd chosen the next line in that tune, you'd have two with arms-invocations.
if you put both pieces up on the same wall, only the hardcore jammers are going to get "sometimes we did". i think jeremy's famous enough that it'll make everyone think of pj... but crazy mary's relatively obscure.
I love how titles affect the viewer's impression of the piece. This piece you posted is quite lovely. The chaos in the top-left, the solitude in the top-right. The multi-panelled approach that displays union and separation at the same time. Much like Jeremy AND "Crazy Mary" (what's her real name?), their union and separation.
wait! new pic is up? i can't find it? what's going on? where am i? ...
don't worry civ...the world has not ended yet! how many months has it been now that i've been saying i'll be getting the pic soon?!?! i am an ass...albeit an ass waiting for a pic from a very busy and forgetful friend!
