i have a movie im making in mind...and i wanna make it in 16mm.
yeah, i always have to choose the hard way. But anyways i was wondering
can i just send my film to one of those places where they put it on DVD..and then put the DVD on my computer and edit it...does that have serious quality loss?

if you can't answer this can you point me in the right direction (websites, forums ect)

Thank You

  • i've shot several films on 16mm. i've always telecined to DV CAM but it depends on what you want to end up on. are you planning on going back to film or just to a dvd?

  • yah i was thinking to transfer it to DV film....put it on my computer and edit it...and then burn it to a DVD

my budget is basiclly pretty small.....im gonna get like a 600 dollar bolex camera...and then try to save as much film as possible...and then convert it...but im not sure about the conversion prices

  • i've shot with the bolex before, it is a nice little camera especially for starters. Some of the fallbacks is that it is really loud so you can forget about sync-sound. It also only takes 15-25 second takes (depending on the quality of the spring within it) so you have to plan shots out well with that in mind. Conversion around here (Los angeles) goes from 150 dollars an hour all the way up to 800 (that is more top end stuff) 150 an hour is reasonible though. We shot about 1300 feet of film (it ended up being about a 6 min short after edited) so it took about 2 hours of telecining. You may be able to get it in under an hour, but you wont really have any time for color correction. if you have any specific questions feel free to e-mail me at fig_man@hotmail.com
