Hey all,
If you have time check out my new website, I haven't updated anything since about 2004 so I figured it was time. Let me know what you all think.

Perhaps we can meet at the beach with our gear one night!

I use a cable release and a tripod. Exposure times depend on the amount of light. If the Moon is out or how much light pollution coming in off the streets etc.. If the moon is not out I let it go for about 40minutes or so but I also use a flash light to highlight areas. I can let it go longer but I get impatient and with a digital camera I get a lot of noise so I try to stick around 40minutes. Some exposures are only 40 seconds and some are 40 minutes. Its really all about playing with the light. I like going out at night, its more peaceful and I can pretty much go where I want.
Where are you in NJ, we can meet up sometime.

what gear do you use?

Is that what you did for the Delicate Arch pic? I was wondering how you got the arch to be highlighted like that.
Great work!
Yielder,
Canon Digital cameras and Canon EF Lenses. I have a host of tripods that I use so not sure what ones for what shots.
I think for most of the shots I used either a Canon 10D or 20D and a 15mm fisheye lens or a 16-35mm lens. It all depends on the situation. I have a lot of gear in my bag so I try to carry what I think I will need for what I am going to shoot that day(night).

I took them in June of 2007.
I am not sure what Arch shot you are talking about. Is it the one in color of just the arch and stars behind it? If so, I used a Mag light for 40 seconds. I learned that after about 40 second thats when the stars start to streak in the sky(depending on the lens you use). I wanted to be able to hightlight the Arch but I wanted the stars static in the sky. I actually got that shot on my first attempt(sometimes it takes a few to get it right).
I was a little nervous up there, after the moon went down you couldn't see more than 5 feet infront of you and if you have ever been there its not the easiest place to walk around in. You are basically stand on about a 30-60 degree angle.
The first shot I took up there was of the Arch and Bowl lit by the moon. On the left side of the photo you can see the angles I am talking about. I tried to actually walk on the side of the bowl over to the Arch with a flashlight in my hand and about 50 pounds of photo gear on my back. Needless to say I was unable to make over there and I almost fell into the bowl when I slipped and fell a few feet. So after that I sat down and took that shot. That shot took me two tries to get:)
Thanks for looking!!

Yeah, that's the one. I've been there during the day and tried to take pictures, but the bright midday sun makes for unimpressive pictures, not to mention I had to wait for people walking around at the base of the arch to get out of the shot.
Thanks for posting the link!
