  • Well, my best freind is of Greek descent and she's brought me back those miniature statues of what I call (in my ignorance) "the naked guys"...I have one that looks like he's holding a cornicopia over his shoulder and another one throwing a discus.

Here's a link what the discus thrower looks like:

I personally havn't the memory for Greek sculptures, which must upset my friend Sophia....but....I really like Degas at the Philly Museum of art.
And warhols Brillo box, which I would call, what?A cardboard sculpture?

Theres a really great place in Hamilton Township New jersey,Bossman,
(The Hamilton near Trenton,NJ) called GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE and they have all these great works by sculpturists.I think theyre on the net if you want to check them out....

    Thanks...

    woo-hoo! art history!!!
    check out:
    Myron- Discus Thrower (Diskobolos)
    Warrior A
    Nike (Victory) Adjusting Her Sandal
Praxiteles (or one of his followers) - Hermes and the Infant Dionysos
    Praxiteles - Aphrodite of Knidos
Gallic Chieftain Killing His Wife and Himself
    Dying Gallic Trumpeter
Laocoon and His Sons (excellent statue!)
Nike (Victory) of Samothrace (The Nike everyone recognizes)
Aphrodite of Melos (a.k.a. Venus de Milo)

That should be a good overview of statues...sorry if I got carried away with the long list!! Definitely check out some architecture (Parthenon, Acropolis, etc) and some greek pots! I love art history, it should have been my major instead of art, haha..
