a song for my little girls

a new morning rises
it peeks through the blinds
you smile at nothing
rub sleep from your eyes

and there's nothing as beautiful
as your face in the sun
as a sweet day "good morning"
rolls off your tongue

and you rise and shine out loud
as you separate sun from my clouds
you shine your light on my soul

feet pitter-patter
down the front hall
innocent laughter
bounces off the walls

and i wish for a moment
you'd stay this same age
but then, what could be better
than watching you change?
