peel off a layer

solitary, I sleep now
but in the lonely sheets, I have what may be
what may arise when the sun breaks
in lines, through venetian blinds

the weight that accompanies every breath
is giving way to a distant hope
as the belief in my own uniqueness
fades like an unattended flame

I am not alone here
new hands bring fresh fuel
reigniting what had become
a faint warmth in the ashes

the constant shiver has given way to a new voice
and sharing a flame now white in the centre
we burn the avoidance together
peel off a layer and burn it again
until the sun steals the firelight
