sitting over the beige glow
of a caffeine lifeline
studying yesterday's tragedies
and faces swept away
contemplating box-scores
and cliche excuses
job ads, want ads
and could of been that
if I'd worked harder ads
fishing boat for sale
call bill...
it's a nice thought
now all I need
is a lake and some patience

the old guy
who flirts with the servers
saunters up to the counter
as the couple
who lost their daughter
to a self-image disorder
find a table to stare at
she's aged
unkept, darkened
he's given up shaving

I scratch at my own
whiskers of laziness
and search the lint
for a refill
