cheap wine and menthol cigarettes

she smells of cheap wine
and menthol cigarettes
gets an ache in her knees
when the clouds crowd in

there’s a weathering to her skin
a line for each prayer she’s said
“she’s lived a hard life”
the neighbours say

but I’ve heard her sing
in a tom waits' raspiness
watched a missing tooth smile
stretch the lines on her face

and who was I, or you
or the guy down the street, to judge?
to point out the age of her clothes
and assume she never laughed

Nice. I love the first stanza. Very evocative.

Makes me think of Crazy Mary kinda..
I've got a Gibson without a case, but I can't get that even tanned look on my face...
  • thanks. i like the crazy mary idea, never thought of that, but i can see what you mean.

kinda make me think of Courtney Love
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key
