it happened again last night
i dreamed sideways, mouthed replies
into disconnected phones
the cameras kept rolling
the courtrooms were shocked
at the testimony of the bear
a witness eponymous
semi-solid and fingernailed
we hid the crosses
on our front doors in blood
burned down each forest
who wouldn't move
out of the way of this storm?

the curtains are calling us home

  • well the curtains called and
    they want their stage back
    as the cameras still rolled
    down highways full
    of foliage/cinders
too proud to hit the ground
    with noise, we kept quiet
    wished our luck
    some better luck tomorrow
    and sat satisfied staring
appauding at the end of the show
    we were impressed the most
    by the curtains' performance

    this is our last chance
