forgetting where you come from is the easiest thing . . . you miss the cement and the way the light bent and flickered in between the trees in october. we put on our hoodies and walked and kicked rocks at each other's feet. remember growing up swimming in leaves by the curbs and watching dust particles float through the light penetrating the windows in our living rooms? the snowball fights on wabash and swimming at gravelly run? i miss it all too and those days are long gone but still make me smile the smile that makes my face long for your long face so i can cheer it back up and mess up your hair. i never really thought about it but, i didn't need to: i've always loved you and i've always been run over by trains and eighteen-wheelers in my mind right before i got the chance to let you know.
