the hair that falls from your head lands on the carpet that wasn't there before. you've stood in the same place for years; cigarette lit and beer in hand. wincing with each inhalation. contemplated the great revolution as science began a war with religion about the validity of the theory of evolution. maybe we just are. then, suddenly, eyes well up for wishes, coins deposited may never add up. you've laid your eyes on your deathbed. the urgency of hindsight hurricane winds and stories of a last-minute rescue with a second to spare. i still think of you as taller, and i'll miss you sooner than you think. oh! i can see how sick you've become. i cannot make a last-second rescue with all of these minutes to spare.
