i used to think of sunlight as a disasterous thing
a silent alarm for the soft-sleepers
a thrift-store sales pitch we can't turn down
a magician who's lost his hat and powers
as twilight comes and i swallow pills
to keep down the swelling and dull all the aches
this is the news i don't know how to break
i take sips from the ponds that your ancestors claimed
untie my shoes but trip over my words
disappear west; write love letters home
this is why i'm still hoping to renew my hope
how'd you end up finding my face in the crowd?

in a crowed crowd swollen beyond the stone temple
and green hedge row’s barrier
what spewed out to me could only be your eyes
or was it that magic you spoke of that slipped out
of the magicians hat?
i ask my ancestors nightly through gentle conversation
as we sip pond tea with lemon and honey
but they can only converse cob-webbed sarcophagi riddled with inscriptions
of tomorrow
i cannot hear them but to feel them
did you think you could hide from me?
or am I the blind fool chasing the dragon?
"Hear me, my chiefs!
I am tired; my heart is
sick and sad. From where
the sun stands I will fight
no more forever."
Chief Joseph - Nez Perce
i was compelled with an over driven craving to answer his question,
so i did.
