if what you told me is true
and home is where the heart is
then why do homeless people
not seem heartless?

you may argue that
they also do not seem selfless
and that
the heart is to the self
what the self is to less
than anything else

or, like a tuning fork
disguised as a wishbone
alarming the children of nevada farms
that dinner is in fact a reality
each evening,
please turn sparks into substance

please please thank me
for thanking you
for welcoming you
and god blessing you
and awarding words
the magic of a rabbit
wearing a hat
for reproductive purposes only

a sort of theraputic medicine
for the out-of-pitch
tuning of the pitchforks
used to farm my soul
when you crossed the country
to get from a farm
to a barn
and gamble your sanity
in a well-lit casino
