we began
to close the circuits
to dig canals
to bury our water
broken, we've already concluded
we've slammed the books
thrown them across courtrooms
despite warnings
we have judged one another
imprisoned our beliefs
behind bone bars
innocent until proven liars
channels change
courses flow into dangerous
international territory
we cannot escape the reality of what we've become
one heart beating
another, black-on-black crime
