you wouldn't have murder
without me, and though
the sand looks good on paper
i'll pick the sea
like all wide awake
only-children of sailors-
turned-carpenters-
turned-laid-off-
failures at failures hiding
from well-rounded tornadoes,
sweeping desks of
journalists
cannot explain how
we found the power
to wash the church
and yet the windows
remain stained
