cartoon cars are erasing themselves before accidents
the passengers therein wondering
if it is as cold out here by actual landmarks
as it is in the stares we've given
the characters we've come to recognize
as extensions of each appendage
we were never given
the time to explain ourselves
as we transform
limb after limb
down flights of stairs
and into the water where fish would lick their lips
if they could
at the thought of revenge
a dish notoriously served best cold
being served at a room temperature more convenient to animals that don't care
about the temperature as we pull the strings
of ice through our tearducts
they are pulled back inside
by some instinctual motor
and we repeat the same phrases over and over
until we become dolls manufactured in a chinese basement
filled with lead but willing to poison
any child who cares enough to kiss us goodnight
