so when you turn your back
i hope you run
not walk
i cant handle that wait
it stretches before me
like the highway i once chose over you
but at least i knew then that i could return
and i hope you run
so i know it all meant something
to walk just seems so
coldly casual
as if my pouring all of my best into you
since we first met
was inconsequential at best
and i hope its sunset
so i can see that light
and feel like ive got a companion
while burning out
and i dont think the daytime
is quite appropriate for this
most painful or partings
and i hope its sunset
so i can fade into the void
that i know will soon be enveloping
both me and the world
and i hope i take care
to feel these feelings
let them carve themselves into my memory
and grind straight down to the soul
so that i never forget
any of it

  • this one is from the perspective of a character in a friend of mine's short story that i've always enjoyed and recently got published. we're actually kicking around the idea of trying to do some type of collaboration-type thing to keep this character's story going because both of us relate to him a lot, so we'll see if anything comes of that
