the desert drinks the hero's blood
while across the waves his child is born
eternal dance with a symphony of flies
mother slowly peels freedom's disguise
with a silent prayer into newborn eyes

paper thin children numb to shock
marked with sun and scars untold
cradle of dreams echo primal cries
the perfect storm erased the lines
god have mercy on all mankind.

Very sad, but very true -- if there is a God, he'd have to show a lot of mercy on mankind, because we've horribly screwed up everything beautiful we've been given.
