I'm sorry my lady, but the train rattles on

I held your hand and sang to you
About the mountain train
Remembering all the times we shared
And how you'd have done the same

I soothed your brow with dampened cloth
Ran ice along your lips
Talked softy about my desert dreams
Thinking only with my hips

I watched your laboured breathing
The wretched heaving of your chest
Cursed myself and him, and that God in heaven
For I knew that soon you'd rest

I tried to keep you here with me
Rampant denial, selfish to the last
But you just got on with the dying
And soon this too, it came to pass

I wonder now, how it came to be
I couldn't see it at the time
How he drew me in and away from you
Dearest old friend of mine

So now you're gone and he has too
In a torturous storm of lies
If you'd been here you'd have coaxed me on
And seen it through my eyes

And that's the truth of it, my lady fair
No matter him and his bullshit ways
He is long forgotten but you live on in me
In every moment, especially when Patsy plays

    BRAVO!!!!!
this is such good writing. kudos to you ms s. i love it. sad though it may be, i smiled at the end cause when the pain ends we are in a better place. every single one of us. :)
    hear my name
    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand
    lie beside me
    i just need to say
  • Thanks so much cate. :o:) This one has been brewing for a while. I think the subject matter was just so overwhelming, the words just ruminating around in my head endlessly and I feel so bouyant that I could finally spit it out. It allowed the dawning to come and was so cathartic to finally have articulated the thoughts and feelings. Now that's done I can properly honour her. :)
