Three Wedding Poems

I love reading poetry and occassionally I write some verses. Two of my daughters requested that I write a wedding poem for each of them. Our first daughter, Michelle, loves sailing; so, I wrote her the following villanelle:

We Sailed on With Happy Hearts

by Richard M. Deets

The harbor wind's song played on in our hearts
As we bobbed in our baby dinghy in the blue bay.
All sea sun long we sailed on with happy hearts.

Sporadic clouds peeled shadows off dockhand carts;
We thrilled in trills of gulls and terns above the bay.
The harbor wind's song played on in our hearts.

Cool breezes blew our dinghy to coves across the charts;
We sifted winded sails, sipped wine all winsome day.
All sea sun long we sailed on with happy hearts.

The sun tumbled; we tacked for clubs past marts
And feasted on mariners' tales of a bygone day.
The harbor wind's song played on in our hearts.

We reveled in rhythmic peals of mast slapping halyards
And lapping ripples mooring mirrored lights in the bay.
All misted moon long we sailed on with happy hearts.

We were skippers of our dinghy, sporting our parts.
Tack port! No, starboard! Buoy, port side bow! Oy vey!
The harbor wind's song played on in our hearts;
All sea sun long we sailed on with happy hearts

Our second daughter, Julie, is a Wyoming gal; so, I wrote her the following blank verse:

I Want to Cuddle You

by Richard M. Deets

All day long I worked on heavy machines.
Now, I open the back door; I am tired.
I call: Julie, Juliet where are you?
The aspens alone answer in the wind.

Our house is quiet, so very quiet.
Your cookbook and apron just put down;
The timer does not even speak its mind.
The prairie sun shines in on your recipes.

Room upon room, I go around searching;
You are not here. Suddenly, I feel so
Lonesome. Julie, Juliet where are you?
Then, I see you through a sunlit doorway

Relaxing under the silver maple tree,
With woven picnic basket on your lap.
The saddled horses and you look my way,
You smile; I hear the doves cooing our song.

You tell me my boots could use some repair,
The columbines and daisies need a trim.
You mention these things; but I look at you,
I want to cuddle you into my arms.

My first attempt at writing poetry resulted in the following wedding verses for my wife:

I Desire You

By Richard M. Deets

I desire you when splinters of light appear,
And the dew lazily joins morning sky.
When arias, pining birds to mates sing,
I want the soothing softness of your kiss.

I desire you when the sun centers the sky,
And shadows hide beneath the soles of feet.
When butterflies dance among lilies so white,
I want the sparkle of your smiling eyes.

I desire you as the moon welcomes the night,
And skies are flooded with twinkling bright stars
When candles flicker their last silent breath,
I then want to feel your sensuous touch.

I desire you when passion swells all your soul,
And your lovely face shines with radiance.
When your moist lips are full of love’s desire,
I want to feel every pulse of your heart.

I desire you when you are weary and down,
And gray skies sprinkle droplets of sad tears.
When the world laughs at your every stumble,
I want to gently sooth your sorrows.

I desire you my love in every moment.
As time adds years like sands on the beach,
When you sense your beauty slipping to the wind,
I will want you so much more than now.
