    The mystery was gone.
He Knew better now, and was disavowing the truths that had been given.
It wasn't even fun anymore. Sure, the buildup was exhilarating.
He saw cops, robbers, scumbags, pushers, and prostiutes, but the results were always predictably depressing.
Days turned into weeks, and he was worse than ever.
He always heard them say that you'd pick up where you left off
Like everything else, he learned it the hardest way.
Within a month, he ran out of money. He began selling his meager possesions; mostly cd's and clothes she had given him.
Every morning he would contemplate jumping in front of the approaching train as it approached. "Just one more fix and then I'll do it" he'd think.
The slight dope high would keep his desperate misery at bay, enough to survive another day.
And then in the morning he'd start it all over again

When you see me on the street, yell out "FAVO!!!"

    But the thing was
you never could anticipate who you might run into
there was always that wild card
of a person you didn't expect
sometimes it was bad, but other times...

One day in his travels, he came upon an old drug buddy. They are paying 30 bucks a head down at the needle exchange just for filling out a survey. Within an hour, he was there completing a questionaire regarding his drug and sexual practices. This made him chuckle a bit, probably for the first time in weeks. He scooped up his cash and headed for the spot. After fixing up in his favorite taco bell bathroom stall, he jumped the train back downtown. He thought he saw her on a passing train, but wasn't sure. He tried to dismiss the thought, but it weighed on him, and permeated his drug induced apathy. When he returned home, he started making phonecalls. I hear she's staying down on Ridge and 8th was the information he finally ascertained. So, he fixed up, and hoped on the crosstown bus.

He felt as if he should be nervous as the bus inched closer to his destination. He felt nothing. His last fix made sure of that, and he was thankful. He got off and slowly paced the block of her apartment. It was a basement studio and he approached the side window. Through the window, he can hear some music playing. She's listening to Dylan and working on a painting. Suddenly, his high has evaporated. He sits down and begins to sob uncontrolably.

my first read of this thread
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
  • then he told her, youre a cheat, a lier, a criminal just like me
and she thought, no, that couldnt be true...

Finally, she spots him outside of her window. When she sees his tears, she begins to cry as well. God; does she love this troubled man, and she is all he ever wanted in a woman. He just can't let go of the toxicity eating at his soul day after day. She hears a faint voice in her head telling her not to let him in, but she doesn't consider listening. She needs to be held by him and in this moment nothing else matters.

In the space of an hour, he fullfilled every wish she had ever had, and undid them. Was he sorry? Probably, but he wasn't even aware of it. He was only aware of the misery and rage that lurked in the ID of his tainted soul. Often, when among people he attempted to mask such thoughts. However, now he was socially lubricated. He had no apprehensions or conscious. It was just him and his bottle, and his works. A match made in hell for the two of them.

She attempted to speak, but he didn't even hear her. He ranted on about "the best Pearl Jam show he ever went to". It sounded boringly similiar to every other Pearl Jam story he ever told, and he told alot of them. He mentioned how big the tits were of a nearby girl, and how great Porch sounded. "Best version ever" he remarked. She didn't care, and began to see him for what he truly was, a disgusting drunk.

The next morning she woke up a bit later than usual. He was gone which startled her more than a bit. She was becoming quite used to his schedule, and these early morning hours certainly weren't part of it. She slipped her robe on, and went to fill the kettle. As it heated up a series of scenarios flooded her head, one more disturbing than the last. Her lip began to quiver a bit as she considered the worst, but no tears came. She almost felt dry of them. As she was finishing her tea, he came waltzing in the back door. "Where you been hon?" I had to go to one of those meetings, you know, to keep probation off my back. "How was it", she inquired? Not that bad actually. She then noticed a small medicine cup in his hand filled with thick cherry colored liquid. "Is that.....?" Yes it is, he interupted; thought I might try to lay off the other stuff. She tried to maintain her blank stare, but couldn't help crack a slight smile as she thought to herself "Oh please God help him, I know he wants to change, I just know it" Don't go getting all happy, he warned, as he smiled a bit too. "I won't" she said, as her grin broadened widely. Then a few tears did ascend down her face.

When he arrived home the next day, she could tell he was drunk. She was mildly surprised. That was the funny thing. She always believed his rants. She always thought it was a matter of time before he got it together. She willfully set herself up for the pain he inflicted. It was a disgusting cycle, and something had to give. Even in his drunken state, he realized that much.
