A man expires
he could have made it but not like this
walls that make Siberia look comforting
the only color comes from the metallic sheen of cold steel
a cell phone vibrates as a suit walks in
he took the flight here, isn't that enough?
buisness stops for nothing not even his fathers death
threatening to sue when the doctor announces the cause of death
it seems that this lonely old skeleton wasn't ready to check out
but it was brought on by regret
the son wasn't one for medical monbo jumbo
but he knew no one dies of regret
besides what did his father have to regret
if he only knew
that a girl he never met ate at his fathers mind
a girl that should have been his mother
the only thing he ever knew of her
was the lesson that his father tried to pass on
"love is a fragile thing, give all you have
and you will get all you need in return"
a lesson that cost his father so much
meant nothing to the son
divorced three times he just didnt have time for love
he saw the way his father looked at his mother
a look of respect but not love
of course he loved her for raising his kids
but deep down he despised her
despised her for everthing she wasn't
it wasn't her fault it was just that he had no love to give her
he lost his heart, lost it years before he ever met his wife
lost it on the ferris wheel as the sun set on a fall night
she stole it with a kiss and kept it by her side
he didn't mind her having it then
as long as it was against her milky white skin
skin so smooth he was afraid to touch it
for it was so perfect all he could do was tarnish it
but she let him as long as he let her have his heart
she could have whatever she wanted, he told her that
"my heart is no longer mine
do what you want with it
but you can never just give it back"
she held onto for as long as she could
his words were like a cloud
pillowy dreams that she could just lay in
but for somone who could speak so well
he wasn't one for action
the empty promises became too heavy
crystalized dreams drifted from the clouds he promised
floating slowly down, only to melt and be forgotten
it was only after she left that he learned how to give all he had
so he aged, a bitter man constantly trying to give up the present
just to get a glimpse of the past
pushing everything away till there was nothing left
nothing but an asshole son to remind him of another failure
and it was this way that he lived
and in the end it was also the way that he died
